AND dead space 2 or 3 remakes could be on the cards if the EA poll is to be believed, but honestly I’m not too excited about the idea.
EA may want to capitalize on the game’s success Dead Space Remake renewing the other two games in the series. Although EA has not yet confirmed this possibility dead space 2 or 3 rewrites, poll leaked by gloomy forest developer Dillion Rogers at Twitter (opens in a new tab) which raises questions as to whether fans would be “interested” in more remakes.
A few more rewrites feel like an easy win, and while that’s great for EA and its bottom line, it might not be good for fans of the series or any other older IP franchise who are desperate for just new content instead of the constant killing of rewrites.
Just because you could doesn’t mean you should
Enjoyed my time aboard USG Ishimura; slicing through all the mutated monsters and enjoying the abandoned ruin of a once great planetary cracker has given me immense satisfaction. However, part of me still felt the remake was a clever cash grab. Instead of taking a chance and creating a new Dead Space game, I thought EA had played it safe with a title that would play on nostalgia.
After an hour of running around the corridors of a broken spaceship, I realized that I had seen it all before and knew exactly where this narrative was going. As someone with a huge backlog of games I haven’t played, I couldn’t help but feel like it was a waste of time.
But that’s not the worst thing about this part Dead Space Remake. The worst is that games like this could become the new normal for older and beloved franchises. I don’t want the rest of my life to be a cycle of recreating Dead space, the last of us and Resident Evil remakes. That would be worse than any horror movie I can think of.
Farewell to the old
As I said before, I have a big backlog of games I need to play, so buying a remake for AAA price and spending hours replaying it doesn’t feel like the best use of my time or money.
This remake won’t miraculously jump to the top of my list and push out new games with yet-to-be-seen stories
Despite my undying love for the series, I won’t be playing it Resident Evil 4 remake for similar reasons. This beloved installment of the Resident Evil series was one of the first survival horror games I played, and was the main reason why I’m still so obsessed with the genre, but I feel like my time with the game is over. Now I am inundated with new survival horror games The Sons of the Forest which present me with interesting situations and beasts that I have not seen before.
That doesn’t mean I’ll never play this remake. Suppose I find myself in a situation where my long list of games miraculously disappears or I have a suspicious amount of free time; I can run around Spain again, killing cult members and trying to save the president’s daughter. But one thing is certain; this remake won’t miraculously jump to the top of my list and push out new games with as yet unseen stories that will surprise me and keep me guessing.
